PHILADELPHIA – Islam Makhachev won his 17th consecutive UFC fight Saturday night, breaking the promotion’s all-time win streak record. The welterweight champion beat Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision in the UFC 330 main event at Xfinity Mobile Arena, one victory past the 16 Anderson Silva won in a row between 2006 and 2012.
Seven Takedowns Kept It Off The Feet
The official scorecards read 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47. Two judges gave Makhachev four of the five rounds; the third gave him three.
The mechanism was wrestling, not striking. Makhachev landed seven takedowns across 25 minutes, roughly one every three and a half minutes, and spent the fifth round on Machado Garry’s back behind a body triangle. He closed out the fight in the one position from which his opponent could neither strike nor stand.
Machado Garry is the longer, rangier welterweight, and a striking contest was the version of the fight he wanted. He never got 25 minutes of it. UFC President Dana White said after the fight that he “felt like tonight was set up for the upset,” and he called Machado Garry “a big, rangy, strong guy who has great takedown defense.”
A 14-Year Record, Broken By A Two-Division Champion
Silva won 16 straight inside the UFC between June 2006 and October 2012. No one passed the mark in the 13 years and 10 months since, and Makhachev himself only drew level with it in November.
Makhachev’s run began in September 2016, a month short of a decade ago. His last UFC loss came further back, to Adriano Martins in October 2015, and his career record now reads 29-1. Where the wins came from is the distinguishing detail.
He held the lightweight title, moved up and took the welterweight belt in his divisional debut at UFC 322 in November 2025, and is now the fifth two-division champion in UFC history with successful title defenses in both weight classes.

Three Finishes Under Two 25-Minute Title Fights
The rest of the main card is the argument for how unlikely 17 in a row is. Esteban Ribovics stopped Edson Barboza on strikes at 1:32 of the second round. Dustin Stoltzfus submitted Mansur Abdul-Malik with a rear-naked choke at 4:25 of the second. Jalin Turner knocked out Kauê Fernandes in 39 seconds.
Three of the five main-card bouts never reached a judge. Both title fights did, and both produced the identical line of 49-46, 49-46, 48-47, with Mackenzie Dern taking a full five rounds from Gillian Robertson to keep the strawweight belt.
Method-of-victory and round markets are a standing feature of UFC cards at USA sportsbooks, and the split on this one was clean. The fights contested by the two best grapplers in the building went the distance; the three beneath them did not. A 39-second knockout is how fast a streak can end, and Makhachev has now avoided that ending 17 times in a row.
