- Bovada prices Cole’s strikeouts over 6.5 at even money, with the under juiced to -130.
- Cole has struck out 110 Orioles in 15 career starts against them, a 29.8% rate.
- Baltimore hitters strike out in 24.3% of plate appearances, fourth-most in the majors and above the 22.1% league rate.
- Cole has struck out 30.1% of hitters over his last eight starts, up from 21.2% in his first seven.
BALTIMORE – Bovada lists the Gerrit Cole strikeout market at 6.5 for Thursday’s 6:35 p.m. ET start at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It is the New York Yankees right-hander’s first look at the Baltimore Orioles since September 2024, and his first start against them since Tommy John surgery wiped out his 2025 season.
Baltimore Has Been Cole’s Best Strikeout Opponent
Cole has made 15 regular-season starts against the Orioles and struck out 110 of the 369 hitters he faced, a 29.8% rate. Set against his career mark of 28.5% and the 22.1% rate at which major league hitters are striking out this season, the read is plain. Baltimore has been a strikeout matchup for him, not an average one. He carries a 2.39 ERA over 94 1/3 innings against the Orioles, has held them to a .197 batting average and has walked 17.
The venue splits that record, though. Eight of the 15 starts came at Camden Yards, and in those he struck out 51 of 198 hitters, a 25.8% rate that sits four points below his overall figure against Baltimore. His two biggest nights against the Orioles, 14 strikeouts in 2019 and 13 in 2021, both came at home. Thursday is a road start, and the road number is the relevant one.
The Orioles Strike Out More Than All But Three Lineups
Baltimore has struck out 1,170 times this season across 4,808 plate appearances, fourth-most in the majors. That works out to 24.3%, a full 2.2 percentage points clear of the 22.1% league average. Only the Reds, the Angels and the Yankees themselves whiff more often.
That is the case for the over in a single number, and it is the strongest argument the over has. It is also the argument the market has already priced.
The Head-To-Head File Is Nearly Empty
The career line against Baltimore hides how little of it applies to the hitters Cole will actually face. Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers have never batted against him. The Orioles on the active roster who have faced him combine for 46 career plate appearances, short of the roughly 60 at which a strikeout rate starts to mean anything.
The individual lines still lean the way the aggregate does. Colton Cowser is 0-for-7 with six strikeouts. Leody Taveras has struck out in seven of his 11 trips and reached on a hit in the other four, one of them a home run.
Gunnar Henderson is the exception at 3-for-12 with a home run and only two strikeouts. Pete Alonso is 1-for-6 with a home run and two strikeouts, and Tyler O’Neill has drawn two walks in six plate appearances without striking out once.
What The 6.5 Is Pricing
Cole is striking out 26.1% of the batters he faces this season, four points clear of the 22.1% league baseline, and he has averaged 23.5 hitters per start. That math produces roughly six strikeouts, which is exactly where the line sits.
His last eight starts argue for more. Cole has 58 strikeouts in 193 batters faced over that stretch, a 30.1% rate, against 34 in 160 for 21.2% across his first seven outings back from surgery. He has cleared 6.5 in five of the last eight.
The under is the juiced side at -130, a price that implies about 56.5%. Even money on the over implies 50%, so the over has to land half the time just to break even. Whether Cole’s real chance of reaching seven strikeouts beats that is the bet, and the gap between his season rate and his last two months is where the disagreement sits.
Workload is the counterweight. Cole has not gone past seven innings in any start since returning, and he has averaged 6.1 innings across those last eight. That leaves little margin above the number on a night when the bullpen behind him is fresh.
Alternate strikeout ladders, the kind USA Gambling Sites track alongside the main total, stretch the market in both directions.

Bradish And The Rest Of The Board
Kyle Bradish starts for Baltimore at 7-11 with a 3.65 ERA, and his strikeout total sits at 5.5 on the same Bovada board, over -145 and under +110. Bradish has struck out 124 of 562 hitters this season, a 22.1% rate that is exactly league average, and has walked 58, a 10.3% rate against an 8.9% baseline.
He draws a Yankees lineup striking out at 24.7%, third-highest in baseball, and he has 52 strikeouts in 196 career plate appearances against them.
The Yankees are -126 on the moneyline with Baltimore at +106. The game total is 8 runs, and the run line is New York -1.5 at +135. New York is 71-55 and five games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East, where the Rays are -340 and the Yankees +320. Baltimore is 61-66, 15 1/2 back and a +30000 longshot in the division.
Both strikeout markets and the game lines stay open until first pitch at 6:35 p.m. ET.
