Betr Picks DFS Review

One point causes constant confusion, so it comes first: Betr runs two very different products under one brand. Betr Picks is the nationwide fantasy pick’em game covered here. The Betr Sportsbook is a separate, fully licensed real-money betting app that operates in only a handful of states. They share an app and a wallet in the states where both exist, but they are governed by completely different laws. Most of this page is about Betr Picks; the sportsbook is explained in its own section so you understand where the line sits.

Betr began life in 2022 as a micro-betting sportsbook — a real-money book built around wagering on the next pitch, the next drive, the next possession. That original product launched under limited market access, and the company later rebuilt it. Alongside the sportsbook, Betr rolled out Betr Picks, a DFS pick’em game that can operate in far more states because it is regulated as fantasy contests rather than as sports betting. Betr Picks quickly became the company’s growth engine and its most widely available product.

The distinction matters for a practical reason: fantasy pick’em and licensed sports betting live under separate legal frameworks. A state sportsbook license “takes months to complete and can cost millions of dollars per state,” which is why the Betr Sportsbook footprint is tiny. Fantasy contests, by contrast, are permitted (in one form or another) across most of the country. So the same brand can be a full sportsbook in one state and a fantasy-only app in the next.

In September 2024, Betr made two moves on the same day: it launched Group Mode, a peer-to-peer version of Betr Picks that legally sidesteps the “player vs. the house” objection some states raise about prop-style DFS, and it soft-launched a rebuilt Betr Sportsbook in Ohio and Virginia. Founder and CEO Joey Levy framed it as “an important inflection point,” noting the expansion would put Betr Picks in front of roughly 65% of the U.S. population. The sportsbook footprint has since shrunk — Betr exited Virginia sports betting in mid-2025 and had earlier withdrawn from Massachusetts sports betting — leaving the licensed book concentrated in Ohio with additional market-access states (Indiana, Maryland and others) held for future launches. Betr Picks, meanwhile, kept expanding.

The rebuilt Betr Sportsbook is a full-service book, not just the micro-betting product Betr started with. It carries traditional pre-match and in-play markets, player props, futures and Same Game Parlays, layered on top of the fast, granular micro-betting DNA the company was founded on. It runs in Ohio, with additional market-access states (Betr has held temporary or full licensing positions in Indiana, Maryland and others) queued for future launches pending regulatory approval. That licensed-book footprint is a fraction of the Betr Picks map, which is the whole point of this section.

The pick’em legal landscape shifted hard in 2024 and 2025. Multiple states pushed back on prop-style DFS that pits a customer against the operator, treating it as unlicensed sports betting. Some operators pulled out of those states entirely. Betr’s answer was Group Mode, which converts the same pick’em slate into a contest against other users, keeping the product live in states that reject the against-the-house model. That is why Betr Picks availability comes in two flavors, plus a set of states where it simply is not offered.

In standard pick’em states your Perfect Play or Flex Play entry is settled directly against Betr’s projections — the group that supports the highest, cleanest multipliers. In Group Mode states, against-the-house pick’em is restricted, so you still build the same more/less slate but your entry competes on a leaderboard against other players rather than against Betr.

Combined, the two formats put Betr Picks in the neighborhood of 33 to 34 markets. Because states have moved individual products between the standard and Group Mode buckets as regulators weigh in, treat the split above as the working map rather than a permanent one — the app’s geolocation check is the final authority on which format you get.

College sports carve-outs

College football and college basketball pick’em is a separate permission layer. Betr Picks offers college contests in roughly two dozen states, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Two of those carry a restriction that trips people up: in Illinois and Virginia, you cannot include in-state college teams in a slate. If college props do not appear for you, your state is one that blocks them, not a bug.

Betr Picks is deliberately simple to enter and hard to master. Every contest is built from individual player projections. Betr sets a number — say, 274.5 passing yards for a quarterback, 26.5 points for an NBA guard, or 1.5 made three-pointers — and you decide whether that athlete will finish More (over) or Less (under) that line. You stack anywhere from two to 10 of these calls into a single entry, choose your format, set your entry amount, and submit.

A few structural rules shape every slate:

• Two-pick minimum. You need at least two projections to place an entry, and Betr requires picks to come from more than one team — you cannot stack an entire slate on one game’s roster in the way a straight parlay would allow.
• Fixed lines, not moving odds. Unlike a sportsbook, there are no plus/minus odds. The payout is a flat multiplier determined by how many picks you make and which format you choose, so a 2-pick and a 6-pick pay very different multiples regardless of who the players are.
• Projections can move. Betr adjusts lines up to lock as information comes in; the line you tap is the line you are graded against, but the board is live until the athlete’s game starts.
• Settlement is by final stat line. Each leg grades on the official statistic for that game. Betr’s help materials spell out exactly which categories count toward each stat (for example, whether a stat includes overtime), and pushes or unusual events (a scratched player, a game postponement) generally void that leg and reformat the entry.

That basic flow is the same across the industry, which is why direct comparison to rivals is fair. Betr Picks lines up feature-for-feature with the PrizePicks pick’em app and Underdog Fantasy’s pick’em product, and with the newer social-first entrant Dabble. Where Betr tries to separate itself is on the payout tables, the special-pick tools and the promo cadence, all covered below.

Betr Picks offers two core ways to grade the same slate. Choosing between them is the single most important decision on the entry screen, because it changes both your risk and your ceiling.

Perfect Play

Perfect Play is all-or-nothing: every projection in the entry must hit, or the entry loses. In exchange for that risk you get the highest multipliers. Once you have two picks, Betr defaults you toward a Perfect Play ticket; you have to tap over to the Flex tab to switch formats. The published Perfect Play multipliers are:

So a $20 Perfect 8-pick returns $2,000 if all eight land, and nothing if even one misses. The steep jump from a 6-pick (30x) to an 8-pick (100x) is what pushes bettors toward bigger slates chasing the ceiling — and what makes Perfect Play so hard to beat over time.

Flex Play (Dynamic Play)

Flex Play, which Betr also labels Dynamic Play, is the insured version. You still aim for a perfect slate, but you can miss one (or, on larger entries, two or more) legs and still collect a reduced payout. The tradeoff is that even a perfect Flex slate pays less than the equivalent Perfect ticket. The published Flex Play tables are:

Reading those tables side by side is instructive. A perfect 5-pick pays 20x on Perfect Play but only 10x on Flex — that 10x gap is the price of the insurance. On the flip side, a Flex 5-pick that goes 4-for-5 still returns 2x your money, where the Perfect version returns zero. On the biggest slates, a Flex 10-pick can still pay a small return (1x) even if you drop four of the 10, which is why grinders who spread thin exposure often live on the larger Flex tickets. Note that Betr’s standard Flex tables start at three picks; the 2-pick contest is a Perfect Play proposition.

Which one should you use?

Perfect Play is the high-variance play: best on short, high-confidence slates where you genuinely believe every leg. Flex Play is the survival format: it smooths the swings on 5-plus-pick entries by paying you back for near-misses, at the cost of a lower top end. Neither is “better” in a vacuum — they are different risk profiles on the same board, and the multiplier tables above are the whole story.

Because payouts are fixed multipliers, the only thing that matters at settlement is whether each leg finished More or Less than its line. A few settlement rules are worth knowing before you build:

• Official stats only. Legs grade on the final official statistics for the relevant game or event. If a stat correction changes an official box score after the fact, Betr’s rules allow entries to be regraded within a stated window.
• Did-not-play voids the leg. If a selected athlete does not enter the game (a healthy scratch, a late injury, a benching), that projection is generally voided and the entry is reformatted to the next-smaller size, with the multiplier recalculated accordingly. It is not automatically a loss — but it can turn a Perfect 6-pick into a Perfect 5-pick with a lower multiplier.
• Overtime and category definitions. Betr publishes exactly what counts toward each stat, including whether overtime production is included, so there is no ambiguity about, say, whether an overtime rushing yard counts toward a rushing-yards line. Check the stat description if a category is unfamiliar.
• Line at lock is the line you get. Projections can drift before an athlete’s game starts, but you are graded against the number attached to your pick when you submitted, not the closing number.
• Postponements and no-contests. If a game is postponed or a match is abandoned, affected legs void and reformat rather than settle.

Group Mode is Betr’s peer-to-peer answer to states that prohibit against-the-house DFS. Mechanically you build the exact same more/less slate, but instead of being graded against Betr’s book, your entry is pooled with other players’ entries and ranked on a leaderboard. Entries are broken into small units (segments as low as $1) that compete head-to-head, so your result depends on how your slate performs relative to the field rather than against a fixed house line. Prizes are funded from the pool of entrants, not paid out by the operator, which is the legal feature that lets Group Mode run in states that reject the traditional model. If your state serves Group Mode, that is the version you will see automatically — you do not choose between formats; geolocation decides.

Beyond the plain over/under, Betr layers in special pick types that modify the Flex multiplier and add promotional upside:

Because these tools change the underlying math, the standard Flex tables above do not apply once an Edge Pick, Boost, Anchor or Combo is in the slate — the app recalculates the multiplier live as you add them. Betr has advertised top-end multipliers reaching into the thousands (up to 2,000x has appeared in its marketing) once these boosts stack, though those are promotional ceilings, not the base rate.

Betr Picks runs a full-calendar board. The core sports are NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, college football, college basketball, PGA golf, UFC, tennis and soccer (including MLS). Availability tracks the season — the NFL and college football weekends are the busiest boards, with NBA and college basketball carrying the winter.

As always, which categories appear depends on the state and on whether college content is permitted where you are.

Betr’s new-user offer has run in a couple of shapes depending on the partner channel, but the recurring structure is a small instant credit plus no-sweat protection on your first entries. The most common version gives new players a modest amount of Betr Bucks just for signing up (commonly cited at $10), then two “no-sweat” token entries worth up to $100 each. If a token entry loses, Betr refunds that stake as Betr Bucks — up to $200 total in refunded site credit across the two tokens. Some promotional windows have instead advertised a percentage deposit match (for example, 50% up to $200). Terms move, so confirm the live offer, the exact promo code and the minimum qualifying deposit (generally $10) inside the app before opting in. Refunded and bonus balances carry a light playthrough requirement (reported at 1x) before winnings tied to them can be withdrawn, and Betr Bucks typically expire about 30 days after they are issued.

Ongoing promotions are where Betr is genuinely active. Regular offers have included daily discounts and multiplier boosts on the board, injury “revival” or reboost promos that revive an entry when a picked player is scratched, day-of-week specials (Wednesday promos have been a recurring theme), deposit-based reload bonuses, VIP giveaways, and the Mystery Multiplier described above. Betr also runs a refer-a-friend program that has paid $25 in Betr Bucks per qualified referral, triggered when your invitee deposits at least $10 and places qualifying entries (commonly $10-plus in entries) within 30 days.

Funding options are the standard fintech set: debit cards (Visa and Mastercard), PayPal, Venmo and online banking/ACH transfers, with availability varying by state. The minimum deposit is typically $10, though some flows have shown a $5 floor. Deposits are generally instant.

On the payout side, the minimum withdrawal is $1 and the maximum is $10,000 per transaction. Betr targets approving withdrawal requests within 24 to 48 hours (up to 72 hours is possible), after which the money moves at the speed of your chosen method — PayPal and Venmo are fastest, while bank transfers can take up to about five business days to land. Betr does not advertise transaction fees on standard withdrawals. One age-linked rule to know: in some states, customers between roughly 21 and 25 face a monthly deposit cap (around $2,500) as a responsible-gaming measure.

Betr was announced in 2022 by Joey Levy and Jake Paul as a micro-betting and media company, launching with a $50 million Series A. Levy — who previously co-founded the sports-betting affiliate and technology business behind Simplebet-era micro-betting — runs the company as CEO; Paul is co-founder and the brand’s media engine. The company is built on two segments, Betr Gaming (the sportsbook and Betr Picks) and Betr Media (content designed to serve as low-cost customer acquisition).

Betr Holdings has remained a private company; note that the Nasdaq ticker “BETR” belongs to an unrelated firm (Better Home and Finance), not to this business. Betr Media is not a side project — it is central to the business model. Levy has described owned media as a “zero-cost customer acquisition platform,” the idea being that content built around Betr’s talent and Jake Paul’s audience funnels users into Betr Picks and the sportsbook more cheaply than paid advertising can. On the media side, Betr’s content play scaled fast in 2024 — the “Talk Tuah” podcast it launched climbed to No. 2 on Spotify within weeks and earned Spotify breakout recognition for the year. The through-line for 2025 into 2026 is clear: Betr Picks is the growth story, and Group Mode is the tool that keeps it legal in more places.

Betr Picks requires players to be of legal age and physically located in an operating state, verified by geolocation at sign-up and at entry. The age floor is 18 in most fantasy states, 19 in Alabama and Colorado, and 21 in Arizona, Massachusetts, Virginia and Maryland — always dictated by state law, not by Betr.

Responsible-gaming tools include customizable deposit, spending and loss limits, session and time controls, and voluntary self-exclusion. As noted, some states impose a monthly deposit cap for younger adults (roughly $2,500 for players aged about 21 to 25). Betr states that it trains staff on problem-gambling identification and cooperates with state regulators. Structurally, Betr Picks plays like its pick’em rivals — the more/less mechanic, the Perfect-vs-Flex split and the two-pick minimum are industry conventions rather than Betr inventions. What differentiates it is the specific payout ladder (a 100x ceiling on a Perfect 8-pick and a 200x ceiling on a Flex 10-pick), the Group Mode workaround that keeps it live in restricted states, the special-pick tools that let you juice the multiplier, and a promo feed that is unusually busy even by category standards. If you already play PrizePicks or Underdog, the learning curve here is close to zero; the reasons to add Betr are the promos, the boosts and, in some states, availability itself.

Betr Picks is best suited to pick’em players who want a familiar more/less format with transparent multipliers and an active promo feed, and who live in a state where the standard (against-the-house) format is offered. In Group Mode states, it remains a solid option, but the peer-to-peer structure and pooled prizing make it a different game than the vs-house version.
