- SMU ACC odds sit at +700 on Bovada, second behind Miami at -140 and 300 points clear of Louisville.
- Kevin Jennings returns for a fifth year and a third season as SMU’s primary starter with 19 career wins.
- SMU beat then-No. 10 Miami 26-20 in overtime last November, one of two ACC losses that cost Miami the title game.
- Miami has never won the ACC in 22 seasons and has reached the title game exactly once, in 2017.
DALLAS – SMU is +700 to win the ACC, the second-shortest price on Bovada’s conference board behind Miami at -140 and a full 300 points clear of Louisville at +1000.
The Board Pays 7-To-1 For The Team In Second
A +700 ticket returns $700 on a $100 stake, a price that implies about 12.5%. Odds are a payout and never a probability, so whether SMU’s real chance of winning this conference beats that 12.5% is the entire bet.
Miami’s -140 asks for $140 to win $100 and implies roughly 58.3%. That is the board saying the Hurricanes take the ACC more often than not, a heavy price to lay on a program with no conference title to its name, and it is the number the +700 is really competing against.
| Team | Bovada price | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|
| Miami | -140 | 58.3% |
| SMU | +700 | 12.5% |
| Louisville | +1000 | 9.1% |
| Clemson | +1600 | 5.9% |
| Pittsburgh | +1700 | 5.6% |
| Virginia | +1800 | 5.3% |
| NC State | +2200 | 4.3% |
| Virginia Tech | +2200 | 4.3% |
| California | +3500 | 2.8% |
| Georgia Tech | +3500 | 2.8% |
| Florida State | +4000 | 2.4% |
| Duke | +6500 | 1.5% |
Behind SMU the board flattens out. Louisville at +1000, Clemson at +1600, Pittsburgh at +1700 and Virginia at +1800 sit within 800 points of one another, a four-team cluster the market has not bothered to separate.
The board runs 17 teams deep at the USA gambling sites that post college football futures, and this season it prices as a two-team race with a long tail.
Jennings Is Why The Price Is This Short
SMU returns Kevin Jennings for a fifth year and a third season as its primary starter, the last of his college career. He carries 19 career wins and 7,709 passing yards with 55 touchdown passes, and the school has built a Heisman push around him, the K7NG OF DALLAS campaign pitched at making Jennings the first SMU winner since Doak Walker in 1948.
The awards market is not buying that part. Jennings is +8000 to win the Heisman at Bovada, an implied 1.2% and nowhere near the front of a board led by CJ Carr at +700 and Arch Manning at +850.
The two markets price different things. Jennings does not have to win a trophy for SMU to win a league, and a returning starter with three years of snaps in the same program is worth more to a conference price than to an individual award.
SMU Already Beat The Favorite, In Overtime
SMU beat then-No. 10 Miami 26-20 in overtime on Nov. 1, 2025, in Dallas, a regular-season meeting rather than a title game.
Ahmaad Moses intercepted Carson Beck just short of the goal line to open the extra period, and T.J. Harden scored on a 1-yard run to finish it. It was SMU’s first home win over a top-10 opponent in more than 50 years.
The result did not sink Miami’s season. The Hurricanes finished 13-3, reached the College Football Playoff as the No. 10 seed and beat Texas A&M, Ohio State and Ole Miss before losing to Indiana 27-21 in the national championship game. What the loss cost them was the conference. It was one of two ACC defeats, along with Louisville, that left Miami out of a title game Duke reached on a five-team tiebreaker.
One result does not price a season. It does establish that the gap between these two rosters was worth less than a touchdown in Dallas, which is not what -140 against +700 describes.
Miami Has Never Won This Conference
Miami joined the ACC in 2004 and has played in the championship game once, losing to Clemson in 2017. That is zero titles in 22 seasons as a member, and the market still installs the Hurricanes as an odds-on favorite.
Their case starts with last season’s 13-3 finish. Quarterback Darian Mensah, at +1000, holds the third-shortest Heisman price. The favorite’s number did not move when Miami dismissed WR Cam Vaughn this week.
SMU has the shorter conference history. The Mustangs reached the ACC Championship Game in 2024, their first season in the league, and lost to Clemson 34-31 after tying it with 16 seconds left. No team had reached that game in its first ACC season before. Duke took the 2025 title from Virginia in overtime and is +6500 to repeat, the kind of reset that explains why the middle of this board is priced so loosely.
Win totals and outright markets on SMU sit alongside the conference number at the best USA sportsbooks, and all of them reprice off the same results. Week 0 kicks off Aug. 29, with the full Week 1 slate over Labor Day weekend and the ACC board repricing from there.
