- Wind Creek paid back 90.99% of the $402.5 million wagered on its slots in September, the highest rate among Pennsylvania’s 18 casinos.
- Parx Shippensburg paid back the least at 88.67%, down from 89.24% in August and last for the fiscal year to date.
- The 2.32-point spread means $100 wagered returned $90.99 at Wind Creek and $88.67 at Parx Shippensburg.
- Statewide, the 18 casinos paid back 90.13% of $2.535 billion wagered, up slightly from 90.08% in August.
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Wind Creek in Bethlehem had the loosest slots Pennsylvania’s 18 casinos offered in September, paying back 90.99% of the $402.5 million wagered on its 2,350 machines. Parx Shippensburg returned the least at 88.67%, according to the wagers and payouts each casino reported in the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s September slot data.
Wind Creek Has Ranked First Every Month This Fiscal Year
Wind Creek’s September rate followed 91.33% in July and 90.94% in August. That put it first in all three months since the fiscal year began July 1, and at 91.09% for the year to date.
Parx Casino took the most wagers in the state, about $1 million more than Wind Creek, and paid back 90.20%. That is 0.79 percentage points below Wind Creek on nearly identical volume. Wind Creek paid out about $2.2 million more than Parx on the smaller wager total.
Valley Forge was second at 90.93% on $98.7 million wagered across 850 machines, the same spot it held in July. Seven casinos paid back more than the statewide rate.
All Four Hollywood Casinos Finish In The Top Seven
Hollywood Casino York and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows both paid back 90.47%, with Hollywood Casino Morgantown at 90.43%. Parx Casino came sixth, and Hollywood Casino at Penn National was seventh at 90.18%, which completes the Hollywood group.
The board reports totals by casino, not by denomination or game, so the sheet shows the gap between floors but cannot say what drives it.
Parx Shippensburg Trails At 88.67%
Parx Shippensburg fell 0.57 percentage points from August on $39.2 million wagered across 494 machines, the largest drop in the state. Nemacolin was next lowest at 89.02% on $27.3 million wagered, followed by Live! Casino Pittsburgh at 89.31%, Harrah’s Philadelphia at 89.42% and Live! Casino Philadelphia at 89.57%.
Both Live! Casinos sit in the bottom five. The two lowest floors are small ones, each with less than a tenth of the wagering at Wind Creek or Parx Casino behind its percentage.
Rivers Philadelphia Climbs 0.72 Points In A Month
Rivers Philadelphia rose from 89.18% in August to 89.90%, the largest gain in the state, and moved from 17th place to 10th. Mount Airy fell 0.47 points to 89.71%, and Happy Valley Casino dropped 0.46 points to 90.13%. Swings of that size make any single month a snapshot rather than a settled ranking.
The 2.32-Point Gap Comes To $2.32 Per $100
Payback is the share of wagers a floor returns as winnings, and the gap to 100% is the cost of playing. At Wind Creek, $100 wagered returned $90.99 on average, and at Parx Shippensburg $88.67, so the loosest floor in the state still returns less than 91 cents on the dollar. The figure covers every wager on a floor for a month, not any one player’s session, which can land well above or below it.
The rates here are payouts divided by wagers as the board reports them. Because the board counts free-play credits as wagers when they are played, the percentages cover all play on a floor, not only cash. Wind Creek logged $14.2 million of that internal promotional play in September, the most of any casino.
Statewide, the 18 casinos paid out $2.285 billion on $2.535 billion wagered. The sheet covers only the state’s retail casinos, one slice of the USA gambling sites market. Online slots at Pennsylvania online casinos are reported separately, and these percentages do not describe them.
